MY ART IS A BIRD LYRICS

1. COUNTING ALL THE STARS

Just a daydream
just a moment
things are changing
and they’re never gonna be the same
Digging underground
my music pounds
Cackling laughter
the need to hold myself
In this tug-o-war
what’s the pressure for
Everybody looking for just a little more
in the daydream
the moment
the changes

Counting all the stars
I think there’s someone watching over me
When I need an Angel
she comes to breathe for me

It’s just a lullaby
so sing your soul to sleep
reach down for some serenity
There’s always something to lose
It’s up to us to choose
So much laughter that hasn’t been used
I am a unicorn
skyborn
I won’t pretend to be blind
I will speak my mind
We cage the waves and tame the wild
I will always be a child

Counting all the stars
I think there’s someone watching over me
When I need an Angel
she comes to breathe for me

But I ‘m just letting the feeling be real
Yeah I’m just letting the feeling be real
I’m just letting the feeling
have its one day in the sun

Consumed by inspiration I sit quietly
on the outskirts of me
with thoughts stuck in my teeth
and hands full of rain
It’s a fine line between crazy and sane

Could it be
Yes it could
Let me fill your cup
we’ve got to drink up
the daydream
the moment
the changes

Counting all the stars
I think there’s someone watching over me
When I need an Angel
she comes to breathe for me
Counting all the stars
Counting all the stars

2. MY ART IS A BIRD

My art is a bird with opal eyes
Made of a bleeding sunrise
Scratches on the thighs
The music
As they shimmy over clotheslines of reality
Shards of music to cool my insanity
I put my head in the beaks of the birds
Inspecting their mouths
as the creations emerge

I think it’s time that you all realize
that you’re free

Drifting down like a plane on fire
And there is me in every passenger
hello hello hello
I wonder when the ground greets me
who will be the survivors in me
and who will be
a bleeding sunrise
in my life

I think it’s time that you all realize
that you’re free

My art is a bird
It’s got opal eyes
Born from a bleeding sunrise
Scratches on the thighs
The music

3. MAN WHO PRESERVES HISTORY

Here’s to the man
who preserves history
Here’s to the friend
who said he’s do anything for me
And I believed him
When he held me in his arms
moving me slow
I felt like the end of the rainbow
The rainbow

Lying against his chest
listening to the rain
His hand brushes my breast
as he crowns me queen

Don’t you dare doubt yourself
he says
You are the wind on the sea
You have everything
You can create your fantasy
And I believed him
When he held me in his arms
moving me slow
I felt like the end of the rainbow
The rainbow

He looks through me and beyond my eyes
Wraps around me and I cry
I say
There’s something that’s calling me
I’m sorry I need to be alone
He says
My queen you need to roam
Lucky for me
I preserve history
and I will hold your heart that I’ve found
Place it on my sacred ground
And I believed him
When he held me in his arms
moving me slow
I felt like the end of the rainbow
The rainbow

4. INTO THE CLOUDS

Five a.m.
I trace your body
touching your face
Switching to the blue room with you
where words have got no place
Looking into your eyes
Looking into a sunrise
I’m not gonna move
Cause into the clouds we go today

Have you ever hiked to the top of the mountain
Stood there
Stood there
And lay down in the grasses like we did
Forgot where
Forgot where we were

Like I said
I said you and me
we could fly so easily
If we took off our weights
yeah we let’em go
To the sky
here we go

Take me back to the room
with the clouds on the ceiling
Where we lay in the feeling

I lie two feet away from you
on the fold out couch
where the pain go through
Our limbs are tangled in it all
Later on in your arms
I realize there’s no solution
Because on the ceiling dips the imbalanced scale
I’m still a blue bird caught in the branches
of her unfolding dreams

Like I said
I said you and me
We could fly so easily
If we took off our weights
Yeah we let’em go
To the sky
hear me
Like I said
said you and me
we could fly so easily
But it’s the end of our day
and we gotta let go
But how do I let go of something
so good
you

5. MELTED PEARLS

I paint the mornings in shades of blue
And I add the oranges in the afternoon
I splatter sparks of stars
as the sun falls for the dark
And when the morning gets me out of bed
I paint my dreams
my dreams

You ask me what I’m doing in my life
I can’t explain it
but it’s here in my eyes
I wake up to paint everyday
Colors range from red to gray
Sometimes I’m here and sometimes I’m far away

And I’m just looking for a little bit of inspiration
Well I’m just looking for a little bit of inspiration
I’m just looking
We need to be that for each other

There’s been a few souls
that have passed through me life
and left a fire inside me
Well I paint their memory
Looking for a teacher down every street
Here comes another pair of eyes
I’ve yet to meet
It’s obvious we’re all searching for something
A little comfort from ourselves
some warm lips to fall into
Come lean over the wishing well
We’ve all got our own stories to tell

And I’m just looking for a little bit of inspiration
Yes I’m just looking for a little bit of inspiration
I’m just looking
I’m just looking
We need to be that for each other
Yes we do

So take these colors
they’re merely a reflection
They wouldn’t be alive without your eyes
So lets paint with melted pearls
six a.m. oceans
The spit of river turtles
and broken mirror reflections
Horse flies and purple skies
and barefoot pain
Let’s make a mess in the rain

6. WORD PLAY

Body
lips
words
wiggles
hands
vowels
verbs
squiggles
Curbs of angry adjectives
blurbs of the intuitive
You can be a gambler or a rambler
a container or a strainer
Captive or adaptive
Predicted
restricted or free
Fire proof
water proof
bullet proof
Prove it
In the narrative of life

What are you tryin’ to say to me

With your whispers
your screams
your kisses
your sighs
your coughs
your sneezes
your talking thighs
Food language
rude language
messages on the phone
Light language
baggage language
Is anyone home
Words that consume
loom
Some smell like perfume
Beltless bombs
phrases of invasion
Hazy drizzle of persuasion
Ant talk
Fruit talk
tea talk
tick tock

Secret language
sell me a language
Teach me
tell me
twist me

I always wanted to know your language
Your morse code
The mathematics and the music
The pictures and the running rivers
of your whispers

What are you tryin’ to say to me

With your words like tiptoes
walking up your neck
Words like bullets and dumpyards
beehives and blind horses
Words like apple pie and good carrot cake
Words that hold and words that break

Language is a whirlpool
Bottom line
you gotta make your own rules
Use the tools
to say it true
there’s a lot of people that need to hear you
Your language
little do they know
Language
there’s something so
Language
thrilling if you’re willing
to let go
What’s she tryin’ to say
What’s he tryin’ to say
saying you can’t get away
hey

No more of this word play

7. HAVOC

I took off in the morning
taking my rhythm through
My face and heart were there
Walked around the corner
fanny pack on my shoulder
towards you

Well there’s a lot of stories in the world from near to far
There’s a lot of hearts with scars
Cause there’s a lot of games

But oh going down in the middle of the town
Well I go a riding home
Hoping that I’ll be the same
If I cannot find my way

Because she’s a wrangler
She’s a strangler in the dark
She can be a havoc if she wants to
She might tear anyone apart
scratch a heart if she’s not careful

The shadows on the wall are like big blueberries
Break’m in half
shooting our ideas
Smithereens of past and present combined
And on the frying pan an idea is fried
I’ve got a million dreams
I’m hoping that they’ll give themselves to me

But oh going down in the middle of the town
Well I go a riding home
Hoping that you’ll be the same
If you cannot find your way

Well she’s a wrangler
She’s a strangler in the dark
She can be a havoc if she wants to
She might ask what are your dreams
Apples or shining stars

She’s a cat in the rose bush
her claws are copper
She reaches up to the moon and pulls it apart
pulls it apart
pulls it apart

Well she’s a wrangler
She’s a strangler in the dark
She can be a havoc if she wants to
She might ask what are your dreams
Apples or shining stars

8. PENCIL DRAWING

Floating on nothing
static and space
Lost in a pencil drawing
I don’t want to erase
I wish you’d write
something on the sky
And tell me where you are tonight

Will she cross
the bridges of you
No the question really is
will you let her through

Snowflakes hit my eyes
Swinging side to side
Floating
falling
free
You’re the white bird
who just flew away
out the window
a trail of light
Floating on nothing tonight

Unexplored mountains
wait ot be found out
But when you walk away
you only shut me out
But I sit still and let you go
‘cause I love you
But you know
I only want to follow
and fly to you

10. LION

How to live this life
My seems are loose
I empty out my pockets in front of you
And I’m like a paper bag
blowing down the street
a hollow room filled with heat
Running through the library of myself
As I climb the ladder
breathing as I move
Soup I stir draws me here
How did I find my way
and who is leading me

I run my fingers over the sky
The windows line my room
The stillness rises and falls
on what I know to be true

I have climbed up a street light
and I’m lying on my belly around the light
My shadow is cast down onto the sidewalk
as people walk hurriedly by
And I wonder do they even see me
Do they even really care
I’m thinking about the times that they needed me
and for some reason I wasn't there

I run my fingers over the sky
The windows line my room
The stillness rises and falls
on what I know to be true

I am struck down by arrows of insensitivity
I am struck down by denial
I said how does the lion stay on her feet
when the rain is pounding down like rocks
How does the lion dance
I long to roar
I wanna break ice with my roar

I run my fingers over the sky
The windows line my room
The stillness rises and falls
on what I know to be true
What I know to be true

11. NOVEMBER 1, 1948

We were both fifteen
when I got the phone call
I was home alone and she said
Listen he’s been shot and killed
and I hung up the phone
I don’t think I heard that right
I think I’m dreaming tonight
Oh I need a chair to sit down
I can’t find my heart on the ground

So I just think of a summer breeze
cause that’s what you are to me

I wonder what it would be like to fly
To tumble and trickle down across the sky
I wonder when I die
will I shoot like a comet down
and fade into the night

Or maybe it will be like a summer breeze
cause that’s what you are to me
Or like climbing the tallest tree
cause that’s what you are
that’s what you are to me

And I cry to the world
I cry to you
out my window at night
And the stars they flicker
and one gets away
like you

Stolen by a summer breeze
Taken to a thousand trees

Six years gone by
and she will never be the same
She said she saw him in her kitten’s eyes
and in the eyes of a flame
And when I stare into your eyes
I can rest my head
My heart is not a bird of lead anymore
And maybe that’s what love is for

To wrap around you like a summer breeze
To shelter you like a thousand trees

12. FIRE IN THE FOREST

Said I am a fire in the middle of the forest
I am the footsteps that I can only remember
I am a line extending to forever
I am a fire

I am the silence burning right in your eyes
I am the wonders and questions above the sky
I am a star falling for her life
I am a fire

And in this rage can’t you see
I am looking beyond me
I’m burning deep inside
And in this rage can’t you see
I’m reaching for clarity
in the aching of my heat
The heat

I am a script titled temporary
given a heart and a name
and a sky make of flames
Searching for my home
Searching for my place to be

In this rage can’t you see
I am looking beyond me
I’m burning deep inside
And in this rage can’t you see
I’m reaching for clarity
In the aching of my heat
The fire

And if I try to hide
try to hide
The fire comes burning down
the bright yellow road towards me
I can feel the sea

Said I am a fire in the middle of the forest
I am the silence that I can only remember
I am a line extending to forever
I am a fire
A fire burning in the trees
